Beer World plans to open Cannabis store
A dispensary at the beer distributor would need a separate entrance.
A beer distributor in Greene County is trying to open a cannabis dispensary.
The cannabis store would be owned by Sonny Patel, also the owner of Beer World, located at 170 W. Bridge St. The new shop would be located in the same building but would need to operate as a separate business and have its own entrance due to restrictions in state cannabis law.
Patel presented to the Catskill Planning Board on May 13, seeking site plan approval at the Beer World location for “conversion of existing retail space to accommodate cannabis dispensary,” according to the meeting agenda.
The LLC that will operate the shop, Catskill Cannabis NY, was established in November 2023, according to state records.
Cannabis and alcohol cannot be sold at the same location, according to state Office of Cannabis Management policies. But if a unit is subdivided into separate and distinct premises with different addresses and no internal connection, both establishments can operate next to each other.
If the dispensary opens, it would be the first pot shop in Greene County.
