Cannabis farm discovered at disused nursing home

A cannabis farm has reportedly been discovered at a disused nursing home in Chippenham.

Police have been on scene at Leonora Home in Wood Lane since Wednesday night (6 September).

Yesterday (Thursday, 7 September), officers remained guarding the large property and were working with electricity company SSE to make it safe.

It’s understood engineers were requested to attend the site to disconnect a rigged electricity supply, with local residents claiming work was ongoing overnight.

Earlier in the day, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service attended to provide advice to Wiltshire Police in relation to the potentially dangerous setup.

This morning (Friday), police continue to watch over the former Pilgrims’ Friend Society home – which closed in late 2021.

Since, the property was rented out to ‘guardians’ – people who rent rooms for a small fee and effectively help keep it secure during any transition period.

It’s not yet clear how the cannabis farm was found, if any arrests were made in connection with it, or the scale of the operation.

Police found a cannabis farm at a house in Swindon on the same date. Officers forced entry into the address where they found a number of plants under cultivation.
