Support Amendment 3 to Legalize Marijuana in Florida
Light the flame of freedom in Florida: Let pot smokers blaze up.
Floridians should be free to smoke pot
Republican state Sen. Joe Gruters is correct (“I’m a very conservative Republican. Here’s why I support legalizing marijuana in Florida,” Aug. 1). Passing Amendment 3 is about expanding freedom and liberty in the Sunshine State.
Adults in 24 states − comprising over half of the U.S. population − live in a jurisdiction where the adult-use cannabis marketplace is legally regulated. None of these states have repealed or even rolled back their laws. Further, public support for marijuana legalization has never been higher.
This is evidence that these policies are working largely as voters and politicians intended and that they are preferable to cannabis criminalization.
Voting “yes” on Amendment 3 will disrupt the illicit cannabis market, end tens of thousands of low-level marijuana arrests, create jobs and bring in new streams of tax revenue.
It makes no sense from a public health, fiscal or moral perspective to arrest, prosecute and incarcerate adults who choose to responsibly consume a substance that is objectively safer than either alcohol or tobacco.
Some candidates beholden to developers
Voters in Manatee and other Florida counties should be aware of who is supporting our candidates for commissioner. Several are being “bankrolled” by companies and developers with anticipation of favorable results for their business.
Relaxation of fees, alteration of wetlands restrictions and changes in growth plans have occurred in the last few years. Our commissioners are providing favorable decisions to allow developers to swamp roadways, stress infrastructure and endanger the environment.
Citizens do not benefit; the developers do. Educate yourself and vote.
