Man arrested in Cannabis NB theft now accused of robbing outlet
Man Charged with Armed Robbery of Cannabis NB Store in Riverview.
The accused was in court for his bail hearing via video conference from jail on Friday and the RCMP charged him with robbing Cannabis NB in Riverview on June 17.
A man arrested earlier this week on charges of stealing tens of thousands of dollars worth of cash and product from Cannabis NB has now been charged with armed robbery.
Adam Jeffery Melanson, 40, of Riverview, made his first appearance in provincial court on Wednesday and was charged with two offences. He’s accused of stealing more than $5,000 worth of money and product from the Cannabis NB location in Riverview on two occasions: May 8 and June 17.
The Crown objected to Melanson’s release and the judge remanded him for a bail hearing on Friday.
The accused was in court for his bail hearing via video conference from jail on Friday and the RCMP charged him with robbing Cannabis NB in Riverview on June 17 while armed with an imitation firearm, which is in addition to the two theft charges laid Wednesday.
The defence requested a publication ban on the hearing and the judge granted it, so the evidence given, arguments made by lawyers and the judge’s reasons for his decision can’t be reported. But at the end of the hearing, Judge Paul Duffie agreed to release the accused.
Melanson can’t possess guns or weapons and is banned from going to any Cannabis NB location in the province. He was also banned from having any contact with a specific Cannabis NB employee at that location.
“Thank you, your honour,” the relieved accused said once he realized he was getting out.
“Just don’t make me regret my decision,” the judge answered.
The case was adjourned to Aug. 2 to give Melanson time to get a lawyer.
