John Morgan Releases More Pro-Marijuana Spots In Florida
John Morgan Pushes for Recreational Marijuana in Florida with Radio Campaign.
Attorney John Morgan is urging voters to declare “independence” and support recreational marijuana in two new radio ads, Florida Politics reports.
Morgan, a longtime marijuana advocate in the state, in May cut a trio of spots in support of what’s known as Amendment 3 — a measure that would permit recreational marijuana use in the Sunshine State.
Smart & Safe Florida, according to Florida Politics, is spending $1.1 million on the dual one-minute radio ads that feature Morgan — a well-known political donor and the face of the law firm Morgan & Morgan, routinely a top radio advertiser known for its “For The People” spots.
Morgan was the driving force behind a successful effort to permit medical marijuana in Florida. Recreational marijuana needs a “yes” from 60% of voters in November to pass.
One radio spot says that “nearly 250 years ago our nation declared our independence. Now it’s time for us to declare independence from laws that demand jail time for simply having or consuming marijuana.”
“Criminal Justice,” the other ad, asserts that the passage of the amendment will allow the police to “fight real crime, not fake crime.”
Smart & Safe Florida said the radio ads will run during July.
Morgan’s Amendment 3 advocacy puts him at odds with Gov. Ron DeSantis and other Republicans. DeSantis has been a vocal critic of the proposed amendment and has said it will “reduce the quality of life” in Florida.
