Drive-thru Marijuana dispensary planned
A marijuana dispensary with a drive-thru has been proposed for Middlesex Avenue, across from the Middlesex Greenway.
Dasco Solutions LLC of East Brunswick has filed an application with the borough Planning Board, to convert a 3,037-square-foot vacant bank on a portion of the property at 700 Middlesex Ave., into a retail cannabis facility, according to public documents.
The application is scheduled to be presented at the Planning Board's Nov. 2 meeting.
The site is known as Parcel A in the Amended Oakite Site Redevelopment Plan and fronts on Middlesex Avenue. A retail cannabis facility is permitted as a conditional use on Parcel A as part of a recent amendment to the redevelopment plan, according to public documents.
The applicant is seeking conditional use approval along with preliminary and final major site plan approval for the project.
Last year the Borough Council adopted an ordinance permitting two wholesale and three retail cannabis businesses in certain sections of the 3-square-mile town. Under the ordinance, wholesale cannabis businesses are limited to the northwest light industrial zone in the area of Liberty Street, while retail will be permitted in the borough's highway retail zone.
No cannabis retail businesses will be allowed along Main Street, between Middlesex and Amboy avenues, which is the heart of the borough's shopping and restaurant area, as well as along South Main Street.
The ordinance requires all cannabis businesses to receive Planning Board approval, as well as a $2,500 application fee and a $15,000 annual license fee. It sets hours of operation, places limits on noise and odors and prohibits cannabis businesses from being located within 200 feet of a K-12 school.
Maps show the proposed facility is near a childcare center.
