California’s Cannabis equity grants reek of hypocrisy

I am sure the underserved communities are looking forward to this for equality.

Re “San Diego awarded $880K cannabis equity grant to boost industry access” (March 2): Our caring state of California has awarded $20 million grants to make marijuana products more available in areas where people don’t have easy access to it, calling them “cannabis deserts.” This metaphor began with “food deserts” and is now morphing into total nonsense and a waste of tax dollars.

What’s next? Nicotine deserts, gambling deserts, vaping deserts, alcohol deserts, opioid deserts and so on? The only reason the state is doing this is not equality for all communities but to increase tax revenue, which is falling since much more cannabis is sold illegally, without a license. This is just a great way to get more people using cannabis anywhere, anytime, and it is a social injustice.

I am sure the underserved communities are looking forward to this for equality. No wonder people are leaving California when greed gets in the way of common sense.

By the way, it’s an insult to a desert, which is a warm and arid area getting less than 10 inches of rain annually.
