WARNING: Fake Dispensary Selling Illegal Marijuana

NEWARK, Del. — The Delaware Division of Alcohol & Tobacco Enforcement (DATE) has issued a serious warning to residents and University of Delaware students about a fake dispensary operation spreading through the Newark area. Reports indicate that this fake dispensary is distributing counterfeit business cards and flyers, pretending to represent a legitimate cannabis company called Fresh Delaware. Officials say this scheme is designed to mislead consumers into purchasing illegal marijuana products.

According to DATE, these fraudulent materials claim that the fake dispensary offers delivery services  something no licensed business in Delaware is allowed to do. Any company advertising delivery of cannabis is participating in the distribution of illegal marijuana, and consumers should steer clear. Law enforcement emphasizes that Delaware’s legitimate marijuana businesses must follow strict rules that prohibit unverified sales and unsanctioned deliveries.

The fake dispensary scam is particularly concerning for college students near the University of Delaware, where these flyers have been found in high-traffic areas. The illegal marijuana being sold through these channels poses serious health risks. Unlike products from licensed dispensaries, illegal marijuana does not undergo required testing for safety and purity. It can contain harmful substances such as pesticides, mold, or heavy metals that are dangerous to consume.

DATE’s Marijuana Enforcement Unit is currently investigating the fake dispensary case and tracking where these materials are being distributed. Authorities are asking the public to remain vigilant and report any sightings of these counterfeit flyers. Information about the fake dispensary can help law enforcement locate the impersonators selling illegal marijuana to unsuspecting residents.

Officials also warn that purchasing from a fake dispensary not only supports criminal activity but could also result in legal consequences for buyers caught with illegal marijuana.

If you come across suspicious advertisements or believe you’ve been approached by a fake dispensary, do not engage or share personal information. Instead, report details to DATE immediately. Tips or information can be directed to Cpl. Tristin Burris at tristin.b.burris@delaware.gov.

Staying informed about scams like the fake dispensary operation can help keep Delaware communities safe. Always verify that your source is legitimate and avoid purchasing illegal marijuana from unlicensed sellers. Together, residents and law enforcement can stop the spread of this fake dispensary scam and protect consumers from the dangers of illegal marijuana.
