With the recent implementation of a seed-to-sale tracking system powered by Metrc, the CCA now has real-time visibility into cannabis production, sales, and patient demand. How the CCA Uses Seed-to-Sale Data
The Virginia Cannabis Control Authority (CCA) requires all medical cannabis pharmaceutical processors in the state to use the new tracking system. From the seed stage to the point of sale, every plant and product is monitored. This ensures the CCA can prevent illegal cannabis from entering the market while protecting patients with accurate and transparent data.
Between July and August, the CCA system recorded:

The CCA also found flower (buds) made up 47% of sales, followed by concentrates at 32%, infused edibles at 15%, and shake trim at 5%. This data allows the Virginia Cannabis Control Authority to track consumer preferences and adapt regulations to fit market realities.
CCA Improves Transparency for the Public
The CCA has announced plans to create a public dashboard, giving Virginians access to the same real-time cannabis data regulators use.
According to Jamie Patten, Acting Head and Chief Administrative Officer of the CCA, “This system gives us a clear, real-time view of medical cannabis across Virginia. We can see which products are popular, track plant growth, and understand sales trends.”
New CCA Safe Driving Campaign

The CCA recently revealed that 17% of Virginia drivers admit to driving high at least a few times in the past month. The safe driving campaign will remind citizens that driving under the influence of cannabis carries serious risks and legal consequences. First-time offenders may face fines, jail time, and license suspension.
