Epilepsy Today: Study confirms safety of cannabis drug CBD

Using a drug based on a chemical found in the cannabis plant to treat epilepsy has been controversial to say the least. An early study from the US may lend more weight to its scientific standing, however. The study suggests that the drug is safe, well-tolerated and effective.

An early American study has assessed the safety of Epidiolex – the drug made from cannabidiol (CBD), a compound derived from cannabis.

The study was conducted by Dr Orrin Devinsky, director of the New York University Langone Comprehensive Epilepsy Center. It was designed to test the safety of Epidiolex and how well people could tolerate it.

The legalization of marijuana in Michigan

Many believe that the legalization of marijuana will mean less jail time, more jobs, and more tax dollars.

“The first thing we’re saying is regulate it and the second thing is, let’s bring in tax revenue,” said Matt Marsden, a spokesman for the Oakland County-based Michigan Cannabis Coalition.

In April, the group filed language for a ballot proposal with the Board of Canvassers in Lansing and a decision is expected sometime this month. If approved, the Michigan Cannabis Coalition would have 180 days to collect at least 252,000 signatures. Maybe more, considering some of those signatures could be deemed invalid.

These 7 Children Have Died Waiting for Access to Medical marijuana

Losing a child is the worst nightmare any parent could imagine, a nightmare that is much harder to bear when you know that there may have been something you could have done to prevent such an awful tragedy. As unimaginable as this scenario is for most parents, preventable deaths are happening at an alarming rate as politicians argue about whether or not marijuana is medicine (we did some checking, it is). At this crucial time in history, a moment when the science on medical marijuana has become crystal clear, our government leaders can no longer afford to move slowly on reform measures. The lives of our children depend on this.

Supreme Court Ruling Alters Criteria for Probable Cause

Law enforcement operating in medical marijuana states could be forced to dig deeper than just evidence of a home grow operation to establish probable cause for a search warrant.

Recently, the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts determined that in order for police to obtain a warrant to search a residence for illegal marijuana possession or cultivation, they must first be able to prove that the occupants of the dwelling are not properly registered to engage in such activities.

A conservative legislator is fighting for marijuana legalization in Texas because God didn't make a mistake

A controversial marijuana legalization bill is advancing in the Texas legislature and Texas Rep. David Sampson is urging his religiously conservative colleagues to back the bill.

According to Mr. Sampson God doesn't make mistakes, and thus marijuana was no accident or oversight that the government needs to regulate. Sampson has also argued that the government's efforts to regulate marijuana results in the violation of Constitutional rights.

Marijuana: Is It Really Doping?

The question remains; does pot offer an unfair advantage to those who choose to consume it?

Thanks to a few certain sports in particular - and some high-profile protagonists (you know who they are) - we often hear about the effects of performance enhancing drugs in sport. Most people accept that these substances (there are too many to mention here) are illegal and therefore have no place in competitive sport. But what about the widely used, and at times over-hyped case of marijuana? The question is this; does pot offer an unfair advantage to those who choose to consume it?

Gillibrand presses for medical marijuana bill

As parents of disabled and deceased children told heart-wrenching stories Monday morning, Sen. Kirsten E. Gillibrand had to stop and compose herself.

The emotional pain the families of brain-impaired children recounted would not be necessary, she told a news conference at the Dent Neurological Institute in Amherst, if medical marijuana were available like other regular prescription drugs. But because the federal government still looks upon the substance as a harmful and illegal drug akin to heroin and LSD – even where it’s legal – she said more children with neurological disorders will continue struggling with damaging daily seizures.
