Aurora Cannabis CEO: 'I lose sleep over our ability to supply this global cannabis market'

Aurora Cannabis Inc.’s Chief Executive Officer Terry Booth told analysts and investors on an earnings call that he “loses sleep” over the industry’s ability to supply the global cannabis market.

“It will be at least five years until we have an oversupply situation,” said Booth on Monday, in response to a question by Canaccord Genuity analyst Matt Bottomley on the company’s pricing strategy.

The Edmonton-based company kicked off a major week in cannabis company earnings with revenue that largely met analysts’ expectations — it generated $54.2 million in revenue in the second quarter ending Dec. 31 2019, an 83 per cent increase from the previous quarter.

3 marijuana stocks with valuations that still make sense

The cannabis movement was virtually unstoppable last year. Canada legalized recreational marijuana. President Trump signed the Farm Bill into law, giving the green light to hemp and hemp-based cannabidiol (CBD) production. And a handful of U.S. states legalized weed in some capacity. It was a banner year for the marijuana industry -- but not so much for marijuana stocks, which had an abysmal fourth quarter.

Cannabis stocks: Do Aurora or Canopy earnings matter?

All this has happened without any real news. But news is coming.

This could be the next marijuana stock to take off (Hint: it's not Canopy Growth)

Canopy Growth (NYSE:CGC) shares skyrocketed following news that it plans on entering the U.S. hemp market, and that has investors scrambling to figure out which pot stock could be next to deliver marketing-beating returns. The marijuana market is worth $150 billion annually, according to the United Nations, so the top cannabis companies could enjoy remarkable growth as marijuana prohibition lessens worldwide.
