Study: Cannabis use associated with fewer disease-related complications in crohn’s disease patients

Crohn’s disease patients seeking hospitalization who use marijuana possess fewer disease-related complications as compared to matched controls, according to data published in the journal Digestive Diseases and Sciences.

A team of investigators from the John H. Stroger Hospital in Chicago, the SUNY Downstate Medical Centre in New York City, and the Digestive Disease Institute in Cleveland assessed the relationship between cannabis use and the prevalence of Crohn’s disease-related complications and clinical outcomes in a nationwide cohort of hospitalized patients.

U.S. gains ground on struggling Canada in race for pot revenue

Planet 13 Holdings Inc. generated more revenue from its one flagship store in Las Vegas last month than Cronos Group Inc. did across Canada in the fourth quarter, yet Cronos’s market value is about 21 times larger than Planet 13’s.

The valuation gap is just one dramatic example of the persistent disconnect between Canadian and U.S. cannabis stocks, and a reminder of the potential size of the American pot market as legalization spreads.

7 marijuana companies: Which pot stocks should you buy?

Of the 46 marijuana stocks in the North American Marijuana Index, I guess that a handful of them are currently making money. That’s the extent of it.

Setting quality assurance standards in the cannabis industry: QA workers and growers need to be part of the conversation

Quality control. It’s vital to a company’s existence, and when selling cannabis that people are consuming, it’s expected.

Can marijuana help Alzheimer's patients?

People diagnosed with Alzheimer’s face bleak prospects. There’s no cure, and no effective treatment for the symptoms that often accompany memory loss — delusions, and even hallucinations, that can make patients agitated or aggressive.

But it’s possible marijuana might provide some relief.

A new study at McLean Hospital in Belmont will test the drug’s effect on dementia patients. And one local family with personal experience with dementia is making the study possible.

As Foxboro resident Alex Spier was grappling with dementia, he began to relive his childhood memories of the Holocaust. His son, Greg, said that before Alzheimer’s disease, Spier rarely spoke of those days.

Cannabis companies want to bring a new mood to the workplace

Edible and vape cannabis products are due to join smoking pot on the decriminalized list this fall, and some companies are creating products that could be used to improve workers’ job performance.

“There are plenty of products that get you really really ripped, and they do a great job, but we didn’t want to be better in that category, we wanted to create something wholly different,” says Tristan Watkins, CSO of Lucid Mood, which produces vapes called Energy, Chill, Calm, Lift, Bliss and Focus, with the intention to “Elevate your mood without clouding your mind.”

The cannabis plant has thousands of organic compounds called terpenes and around 200 different cannabinoids, with the famous ones being psychoactive THC and pain-masking CBD.

Although we have our specific reasons for consuming cannabis, it’s important to understand the role it plays internally and externally. Specifically, cannabis impacts a plethora of hormones including, but not limited to: estrogen, testosterone, and growth hormones. But how so?
