Here’s a quick primer on when to use the terms ‘marijuana’, ‘cannabis’ and ‘hemp’

Is there really a difference? Everyone seems to be using the terms “cannabis” and “marijuana” interchangeably. And the word “hemp” is also rising in popularity. But does it matter which term you use?

According to Rod Kight, international hemp and cannabis business law attorney, it’s important to know the difference, especially if you’re talking in legal terms. But either way, it’s a good lesson for all of us.

Has cannabis legalization led to fewer teens smoking pot?

In recent years, the idea of the youth being adversely affected by the legalization of marijuana continues to be a common refrain of those in opposition. As recreational marijuana has existed in several states for nearly half a decade, we have the benefit of hindsight and can know with a reasonable degree of certainty if the voters that approved the legalization of marijuana thought of the youth of America.

Levi's found a way to make hemp feel like cotton, and it could have big implications for your wardrobe

Denim icon Levi Strauss & Co. debuted garments made from a soft hemp-cotton blend in March, and head of innovation Paul Dillinger said he expects 100% cottonized-hemp products in about five years.

Hemp uses significantly less water and chemicals than cotton during cultivation. Levi's has found a way to soften hemp using far less water than was previously used.

Dillinger said the long-term goal is to incorporate sustainable cotton blends by using fibers such as hemp into all of its products.

3 marijuana stocks to avoid like the plague in May

Believe it or not, marijuana stocks proved fallible in April, with the first tradable cannabis exchange-traded fund, the Horizons Marijuana Life Sciences ETF, falling by 1.6% during the month. Of course, there's no need to cry a river, with the ETF tripling the performance of the S&P 500 on a year-to-date basis.

However, a budding cannabis market doesn't mean you can simply throw a dart and select a winner. If anything, investors should be more critical of pot stocks now, with the industry still nascent and contending with numerous supply chain-based growing pains.

As I look at the more than 50 marijuana stocks I regularly follow, I see three that should be avoided like the plague in May.

Could CBD — the cannabis-based miracle elixir — be coming to a cookie jar near you?

According to the New York Daily News, Mondelez International — which own brands like Chips Ahoy, Oreo, and Cadbury chocolate — is considering adding the chemical found in hemp and marijuana to some products.

But Mondelez CEO Dirk Van de Put told CNBC not expect a little extra in your Oreo just yet.

“Yes, we’re getting ready, but we obviously want to stay within what is legal and play it the right way,” Van de Put said, adding that CBD may go against the company’s wholesome image.

Are you breaking the law by taking CBD on vacation?

Most people know that’s it’s not a good idea to travel internationally with cannabis in their possession. Since 9/11, airport screening has increased dramatically around the world, and that means that anyone could get in trouble for carrying a controlled substance.

CBD is legal – sort of –  in some countries in Europe, but can you take it with you on vacation? Even though cannabis and CBD are legal in some states in America, they are still prohibited by the 1930’s prohibition act, according to Federal law. But what about a patient who has legally been prescribed cannabis or a CBD product by a medical professional, but is scared to travel abroad or even domestically due to multi-layered airport security measures?
