Located amid medical offices east of downtown Reno, Sierra Wellness Connection could be mistaken for a suburban pharmacy. But it deals in Purple Kush and Sour Diesel instead of ibuprofen and Sudafed.

That’s the point, said Steve Rausch, vice president of the first medical marijuana dispensary set to open in Reno, at 1605 E. Second St., near Renown Regional Medical Center, on Wednesday.

First marijuana dispensary in Las Vegas area opening Monday

Fifteen years after medical marijuana was legalized in Nevada, Clark County’s first retail dispensary plans to open to the public Monday.

Euphoria Wellness, 7780 S. Jones Blvd., will begin selling to patients at 10 a.m. Monday. To help contend with expected high demand, only 250 people who have pre-registered will be allowed to buy marijuana and cannabis-infused products on each of the first two days.

On Wednesday, the dispensary will be open to any licensed cardholder, of which there are about 9,500 statewide. Medical marijuana cardholders from other states also will be able to shop at Nevada dispensaries.

For Nevada pot businesses, it's not all money in the bank

RENO -- With one medical marijuana dispensary open in Sparks and another opening before the end of the month in Reno, marijuana establishments are gaining traction in Nevada. Behind the scenes, dispensaries are supported by grow facilities, cultivation centers, testing labs and consulting firms, all of whom face the unique struggles of being in a burgeoning yet federally illegal industry.

One of the biggest challenges they face is financial. In the marijuana industry, traditional banking is virtually impossible, and Nevada businesses have to find ways to work within the confines of a cash-only industry.

Las Vegas: Medical marijuana dispensary interviews job candidates

The first stocked medical marijuana dispensary in Las Vegas is preparing to open its doors.

Releaf Dispensary on Monday interviewed potential employees. About a thousand people applied for 40 available positions.

Applicant Thomas Orton admitted that he sold illegally for most of his life. Now he wants to do things the right way.

“I’ve been an advocate of its abilities and properties from probably my early 20s,” Orton said.

Orton chose to move with his wife from Salt Lake City to Las Vegas.

“We kind of moved here so I could be here. It’s just that we moved here a year and a half ago and we thought that the process would be pretty close to where it is now,” he said.
