Germany orders 3 million euros of cannabis from Tilray Portugal

The Canadian company, which opened its medical cannabis production plant in Cantanhede in the Coimbra district this year, and recently leased 20 hectares of production land in Reguengos de Monsaraz, near Évora, has signed an initial supply contract of 3.3 million dollars (approximately three million euros) with Cannamedical Pharma to increase the distribution of medical cannabis products to German patients.

The export operation is expected to be carried out in the autumn, being "the first of its kind that Tilray will conduct from its Portugal facility to supply patients in Germany," the company explained.

The company appointed five senior members to its European team, according to a statement Friday. Arne Wilkens, a former executive at the German pharmaceuticals company AiCuris, will take on the role of vice president of business expansion in Europe.

Long-awaited German tenders handed to specialist trio

White smoke emanating from Germany’s medical agency signals the wait is over to find out which firms have been awarded medicinal cannabis tenders for Europe’s top market.

Two Canadian firms, Aphria, and Aurora Cannabis and Germany’s Demecan have won out, it has emerged.

The three companies will split a four-year tender to grow 10,400kg between them. Aphria won five of the 13 lots, with Aurora Cannabis and Demecan handed five and three lots respectively.

Canopy Growth Corporation (TSX: WEED) (NYSE: CGC) is acquiring the German-based, Bionorica SE-founded C3 Cannabinoid Compound Company in an all-cash deal valued at €225.9 million (CDN $342.9 million) or roughly $250 million. The move is intended to expand Canopy Growth’s reach in Europe.
