Epidyolex approved for use in over 30 European Countries

Patients in over 30 European countries could soon be able to get access to GW Pharmaceuticals Epidyolex cannabis medicine after it was approved by the European Commission.

Since its launch in the U.S last year GW’s sales have rocketed with Epidiolex (as it is known in America) boosting its revenues by over $30m in its first quarter, with more than 7,600 patients accessing the drug.

Now the European Medicines Agency has approved marketing authorisation in the 28 member states of the European Union, for its use for two conditions associated with childhood epilepsy; Lennox‑Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome.

London to replace Frankfurt as Europe’s cannabis capital hub

While Frankfurt is the current market of choice for overseas companies, the additional capital available in London will see it become Europe’s financial cannabis hub, say experts.

Jonathan Roy, a Director at the Cannabis Investor Forum, said the U.K. investment opportunities are currently limited to a few companies as others ‘play a waiting game’.

Germany receives first medical cannabis imports from Portugal and Australia

Germany received its first imports of medicinal cannabis from Portugal and Australia this week. Two German companies took delivery of the shipments that will be used for testing purposes and to supply the country’s growing demand for medical marijuana, which was legalized in 2017.

In Cologne, Cannamedical Pharma received a commercial shipment of cannabis from a company in Portugal. Although the company did not identify the shipper, last month Tilray Portugal announced that it had come to an agreement with Cannamedical to export medicinal cannabis to Germany.

Germany orders 3 million euros of cannabis from Tilray Portugal

The Canadian company, which opened its medical cannabis production plant in Cantanhede in the Coimbra district this year, and recently leased 20 hectares of production land in Reguengos de Monsaraz, near Évora, has signed an initial supply contract of 3.3 million dollars (approximately three million euros) with Cannamedical Pharma to increase the distribution of medical cannabis products to German patients.

The export operation is expected to be carried out in the autumn, being "the first of its kind that Tilray will conduct from its Portugal facility to supply patients in Germany," the company explained.

Tilray speeds expansion in Europe

Tilray Inc. is expanding its European leadership team and setting up a hub in Portugal, deepening its planned international reach.

The company appointed five senior members to its European team, according to a statement Friday. Arne Wilkens, a former executive at the German pharmaceuticals company AiCuris, will take on the role of vice president of business expansion in Europe.
