What Is An E-Nail…and Could You Benefit From One?
If you’ve got your finger on the pulse of current concentration trends, you might have heard of the e-nail. It’s a relatively new tool on the market but is already gaining popularity among dabbing enthusiasts. Enails are used in conjunction with Dab rigs to vaporize concentrates. Since heating concentrates to an accurate temperature is key, it’s no wonder these nifty devices are becoming a top option!
Temperature Counts!
Your favorite butane torch might get the job done, but it is incapable of maintaining a constant temperature. If there is too much heat, the vapor will taste harsh and smell unpleasant. Even worse, overheating causes the degradation of cannabis compounds. THCA, which is in cannabis, converts to THC when heated. Yet, if too much heat gets applied, the THC will convert to cannabinol. Cannabinol caused less-than-desirable effects, such as sleepiness and dizziness. Not exactly what you want from your dabs, right? If there is not enough heat, little to no vapor will be produced…which results in a frustrating lack of a high. While it might not be a problem for some, many enthusiasts dislike the trial and error in getting the perfect dab. This is where the e-nail comes in.
No Torch, No Problem
What sets e-nails apart from other nails is that it uses electricity as a heat source. They consist of a controller box, a Proportional-Integral-Derivative (also known as a PID) gauge, and a coil. The PID gauge monitors the temperature of the coil as a safety measure to keep the user from being burned. The user can choose the temperature of the controller with a push of a button. Heat up time varies by device, but is typically no more than 5 minutes. There is a light on most units that let the user know when the unit is ready for dabbing. There is no need to wait for it to heat up or cool down between dabs, either. E-nails provide the perfect temperature for a perfect dab, each and every time.
E-nails operate completely on electricity, so many people find them more convenient than butane torches. Though butane is relatively inexpensive, E-nails that are used exclusively will pay for themselves over time. You will never have to worry about refilling butane or replacing a torch. They’re a time saver, too...no need for the hassle of waiting for it to heat up and cool down between dabs.
Things to Remember
There are some things to keep in mind if you’re considering an e-nail. Since they are capable of reaching extremely high temperatures (1000 degrees!), you should take care when operating the unit. They should not be left where children or pets can access them, and since they are electrical, they should never be exposed to the elements. E-nails can pose a fire risk and you should never operate them around flammable substances or leave them unattended. Since e-nails must have a source of electricity, you will need to plan ahead if planning to use the device outside of your home.
So, Is An E-Nail Right For You?
Overall, e-nails are a great choice for users who consume concentrates regularly or who like to dab with friends. As with all dab equipment, deciding if an e-nail will fit your lifestyle is a deeply personal choice.
