Norwalk's SoNo 1420 Distillery Unveils First THC-Infused Drink

South Norwalk’s own SoNo 1420, famously known as America’s Maritime Distillery, is shaking up the cannabis beverage scene with the release of its first-ever THC-infused drink. In honor of its sixth anniversary, the award-winning distillery has debuted HZE—a bold, refreshing entry into the booming market of cannabis-infused beverages.

The new THC-infused drink, pronounced “Haze,” takes inspiration from SoNo 1420’s top-selling Strawberry Lemonade Haze cocktail. Each can of HZE delivers a 3-milligram microdose of THC, offering a mellow, feel-good buzz without the intensity of stronger cannabis products. With only 30 calories and five grams of sugar, this THC-infused drink provides a light, flavorful alternative to alcohol—no hangover, no bloat.

“With HZE, we’re flipping the script on what a ‘good time’ looks like—no booze, no bloat, just pure, feel-good flavor with a microdose of chill,” said founder Ted Dumbauld. “It’s everything you want from a night out (or in), minus the hangover. We’re pumped to bring this game-changer to Connecticut!”

Dumbauld is no stranger to innovation. Since founding SoNo 1420 in 2019, he’s pushed boundaries—originally gaining attention for creating the world’s first hemp-infused whiskey and gin. At that time, hemp was added strictly for its unique flavor characteristics. But the 2021 legalization of recreational cannabis in Connecticut opened new doors, setting the stage for the distillery’s expansion into THC-infused drinks.

Over the years, SoNo 1420 has racked up national acclaim for its premium spirits. The 1420 Full Proof whiskey took home a Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, while Vo Vodka was recognized on Wine Enthusiast’s “Top 100 Spirits of 2024” list. The distillery’s leap into THC-infused drinks is a natural next step for a brand known for innovation and excellence.

Industry data backs the move. According to Brightfield Group, the U.S. market for THC-infused drinks grew from $102 million in 2023 to a projected $382 million in 2024. SoNo 1420’s HZE contains the maximum amount of THC allowed under Connecticut law—3 milligrams per serving—making it a compliant yet compelling choice in a tightly regulated market.

The new THC-infused drink is available now at select licensed retailers throughout Connecticut and online at drinkhze.com.

With HZE, SoNo 1420 is not only marking an anniversary—it’s setting a new standard for what a THC-infused drink can be: smooth, social, and seriously satisfying.
