Each has caps in state law, and applicants will be part of lottery drawings for the distribution of those licenses.  Recreational marijuana became legal in Minnesota on Aug. 1, 2023, making it the 23rd state to do so. Lines stretched around the block that day when the first dispensary opened on the Red Lake Nation. Tribal governments did not have to wait for the state's licensing process.      [by KARE 11](https://www.kare11.com/article/news/state/minnesota-important-milestone-closer-launching-cannabis-market/89-52ec1cfd-8bb3-4e48-b652-ba608a6359e0)   [Cannabis Politics](https://420intel.com/blog/tag/cannabis-politics) [Recreational Cannabis News](https://420intel.com/blog/tag/recreational-cannabis-news) ![Buzz](https://420intel.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Buzz-No%20Outline-2.png?width=200&height=200&name=Buzz-No%20Outline-2.png) #### [Buzz](https://420intel.com/blog/author/buzz) At 420 Intel, we cover cannabis legalization news throughout the world, offer reliable information for cannabis business owners, detail technological advances that impact the marijuana industry, cover marijuana rallies from across the globe, and everything in between. - - - [Marijuana legalization](https://420intel.com/blog/tag/marijuana-legalization) [![South Dakota Faces Illegal Marijuana Sales Crisis](https://420intel.com/hs-fs/hubfs/20250612_0715_image.png?width=550&height=395&name=20250612_0715_image.png)](https://420intel.com/blog/south-dakota-faces-illegal-marijuana-sales-crisis) - [![Buzz](https://420intel.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Buzz-No%20Outline-2.png?width=80&height=80&name=Buzz-No%20Outline-2.png) Buzz](https://420intel.com/blog/author/buzz) - 12 June 2025 #### [South Dakota Faces Illegal Marijuana Sales Crisis](https://420intel.com/blog/south-dakota-faces-illegal-marijuana-sales-crisis) SIOUX FALLS, S.D. {Dakota News Now} - There’s a new concern growing in the medical cannabis...
