    KBI Intensifies Cannabis Crackdown

The KBI (Kansas Bureau of Investigation) led a sweeping enforcement operation this week, executing ten search warrants across the state. The action targeted vape shops and CBD dispensaries suspected of selling products containing illegal concentrations of THC. Two of the raids took place in Salina, where shops were accused of distributing items that violated Kansas state law.

Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach and KBI Director Tony Mattivi announced the coordinated raids on Wednesday. The operation involved not only KBI agents but also local law enforcement agencies working together to seize marijuana vegetation, THC vape cartridges, and pre-rolled marijuana cigarettes. In several locations, weapons and large amounts of currency were also confiscated.

According to the KBI, warrants were executed at businesses in Salina, Wichita, Pratt, Concordia, McPherson, and Topeka. Shops such as Space Out Smoke Vapor & Tobacco in Salina and EZ Smoke and Vape in Wichita were among those searched. Officials stated that when the investigations conclude, the KBI will submit findings to prosecutors, who will then decide on possible charges.

    KBI’s Commitment to Enforcement
In a press release, KBI Director Mattivi emphasized that the presence of illegal THC products in vape shops poses a direct risk to communities. He explained that many Kansans mistakenly believe such items are safe and legal, when in fact they are not. “Anyone who sells illicit products poses a direct and unacceptable threat to the health and safety of our most vulnerable,” Mattivi said, pledging that the KBI will continue removing these substances from Kansas streets.

Attorney General Kobach echoed this concern, pointing out that many of the targeted shops were openly selling THC vapes and marijuana cigarettes. He stressed that Kansas law prohibits such sales and that the KBI’s crackdown was necessary to protect public health and uphold the law. Kobach also highlighted the ease with which minors could access these substances compared to regulated tobacco products, calling the situation “brazen illegal activity.”

    Ongoing Investigation
The KBI has made clear that this operation is not yet complete. More investigations are underway, and the agency has warned that additional enforcement actions could follow. By coordinating closely with prosecutors, the KBI aims to send a strong message that violations of Kansas drug laws will not be tolerated.

As Kansas continues to debate its stance on cannabis and hemp products, the KBI remains at the forefront of enforcement. This week’s statewide raids show the agency’s determination to uphold Kansas law and protect communities from the spread of unregulated THC products.
