A Fayetteville man is facing a long list of charges after what began as a routine traffic stop turned into a major drug arrest. Police identified the suspect as 48-year-old Jumaane Pugh, who was pulled over by officers before the search that revealed significant amounts of narcotics and cash.

Drugs and Cash Found in Vehicle

According to law enforcement, the Fayetteville man was stopped for speeding. What seemed like an ordinary violation quickly escalated after officers conducted a search of his vehicle. Inside, police discovered 66 grams of cocaine, 73 dosage units of Oxycodone Hydrochloride, 5 grams of marijuana, an electronic scale, and $695 in cash.

Authorities say the Fayetteville man now faces multiple felony charges. Among them are trafficking cocaine by possession, trafficking cocaine by transport, possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, felony possession of cocaine, possession with intent to sell or deliver a Schedule II-controlled substance, simple possession of a Schedule VI-controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The Fayetteville man also faces a speeding violation tied to the initial stop.

Court Date Scheduled for September

After being booked, the Fayetteville man received a $250,000 secured bond. He has since been released and is scheduled to appear in the Cumberland County Courthouse on September 11 at 9 a.m. That court date could prove pivotal in determining the next steps in his case.

Community Concerns Over Serious Charges

With trafficking levels of cocaine and prescription opioids found, the case against the Fayetteville man highlights the ongoing battle authorities face against the spread of illegal drugs in the region. The discovery of both narcotics and cash also raises suspicions that the Fayetteville man may have been involved in distribution.

Routine Stop Leads to Major Arrest

This arrest is another reminder of how routine traffic enforcement can lead to significant breakthroughs in drug-related crimes. Officers say that the traffic stop was initiated for speeding, but the eventual discovery underscores how vigilance on the road can lead to uncovering larger criminal activity. For the Fayetteville man, what started as a speeding violation has now spiraled into a complex legal situation involving multiple felony charges.

While the Fayetteville man has been released on bond, the upcoming court appearance will determine how the justice system proceeds. For now, the case stands as one of the more notable recent drug busts in Cumberland County, shedding light on both the persistence of law enforcement and the challenges communities face in addressing the drug crisis.
