Fake Weed Flyers Flood UDel Campus - Stay Sharp!

Written by Buzz | Oct 17, 2025 10:01:06 AM

A new scam is making the rounds near the University of Delaware (UDel), and local officials are urging residents to be cautious. The Delaware Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement (DATE) has issued a public warning about fake flyers being distributed in and around Newark. These fake flyers claim to represent a real marijuana business but are actually the work of an impersonator attempting to deceive the public.

According to authorities, the fake flyers have been spotted near UDel’s campus and throughout the Newark area. They advertise marijuana delivery services under the name “Fresh Delaware,” a legitimate-sounding but fraudulent operation. The problem, officials stress, is that no licensed marijuana business in Delaware is permitted to offer delivery services. Anyone who sees these fake flyers should treat them as a scam and avoid contacting the number or email listed.

The fake flyers look professional, which makes them more convincing to unsuspecting individuals. However, Delaware law enforcement confirmed that these materials are being distributed by someone illegally posing as a representative of a real dispensary. UDel’s proximity to Newark makes the area a prime location for these fake flyers, as students and young adults may be more inclined to try convenient delivery options.

Officials from DATE are working closely with local police to investigate the distribution of these fake flyers. They are asking anyone with information to come forward and assist with the case. Cpl. Tristin Burris is handling the investigation and can be reached by email at tristin.b.burris@delaware.gov. Sharing tips about where the fake flyers have been seen can help authorities track down the impersonator responsible.

For UDel students and community members, the message is clear: be skeptical of marijuana advertisements that sound too good to be true. If you see fake flyers around campus, do not respond to them or share your personal information. Instead, report them to campus police or Delaware authorities.

In Delaware, legitimate marijuana businesses follow strict regulations, and none are allowed to deliver products directly to customers. Understanding this rule can help prevent UDel residents from falling victim to these fake flyers. Stay alert, spread the word, and help stop the spread of fake flyers in Newark and around UDel.
