In the fall of 2025, I set out to follow the trail of cannabis from one end of the planet to the other — from Reykjavík, Iceland, to Ushuaia, Argentina, the southernmost city on Earth. Two hemispheres, two extremes, and one shared spirit: curiosity, courage, and connection.
In Iceland, beneath the glow of the aurora, the Hemp for the Future 2025 conference brought together scientists, farmers, and dreamers to explore how cannabis can shape a more sustainable world. Inside Reykjavík’s historic IÐNÓ Theatre, discussions flowed about hemp innovation, wellness tourism, and the power of regulation rooted in empathy. Experts like Beau Whitney, Jamie Pearson, and Þórunn “Tóta” Jónsdóttir reminded everyone that the cannabis industry isn’t just about commerce it’s about community, compassion, and courage.
Iceland, a nation built on geothermal fire and glacial calm, seemed a fitting birthplace for a movement redefining modern wellness. Attendees explored how cannabis could enhance Iceland’s booming wellness tourism sector while aligning with its clean-energy ethos. Hemp, speakers argued, could become the nation’s next sustainable export proof that progress doesn’t have to compromise nature.
Then, my path led south across oceans and continents to Argentina’s Expo Cannabis in Buenos Aires and onward to Tierra del Fuego, the “Land of Fire.” There, surrounded by snow-capped peaks and icy seas, the cannabis conversation continued. Argentina’s medical program is modest but meaningful, granting patients access to treatments rooted in compassion. The atmosphere at the Expo was electric proof that even at the ends of the Earth, cannabis brings people together through shared vision and resilience.
In Patagonia, I met growers, educators, and artists who saw cannabis not merely as a plant, but as a bridge linking science and spirit, regulation and freedom. Around the fires of Ushuaia, advocates spoke of courage, innovation, and the healing power of connection.
What I discovered on this global journey is that cannabis transcends borders. It grows in volcanic soil and tundra moss alike, thriving wherever there’s openness and hope. Governments may be cautious, but people are already moving forward cultivating not just crops, but community.
From Iceland’s icy fields to Argentina’s fiery coasts, the story of cannabis is universal.
Because in the end, cannabis doesn’t belong to one nation or industry.
It belongs to the world.
