$1 Million in Cannabis Seized in Melbourne

Police have uncovered nearly $1 million worth of cannabis from two industrial sites in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, dealing a major blow to commercial drug trafficking operations in the region. As part of an ongoing investigation led by the Croydon Divisional Response Unit (DRU), detectives executed search warrants at factory premises in Scoresby and Bayswater, revealing two sophisticated hydroponic cannabis set-ups.

Over a two-day operation, police seized a total of 393 cannabis plants, weighing in at over 590 kilograms. The combined street value of the cannabis is estimated at approximately $950,000. The latest and largest discovery occurred at an industrial site in Bayswater, where 282 mature cannabis plants—worth around $500,000—were found during a raid on Thursday.

The Bayswater raid followed an earlier search at a factory in Scoresby earlier in the week, where police located 111 cannabis plants. Authorities believe both crop houses are connected and may be part of a broader, coordinated drug trafficking network operating in Melbourne’s east.

“These crop houses are highly sophisticated and clearly set up to generate maximum profit for organised crime groups,” said Detective Inspector Glen Cruse, Investigation and Response Manager for Eastern Region Division 2. “We believe these factories are linked and part of a wider, coordinated network actively operating across Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.”

Detective Inspector Cruse emphasized the seriousness of the bust and reinforced law enforcement’s commitment to dismantling organised drug operations. “This is a significant seizure, and we’ll continue to apply pressure. It’s only a matter of time before we’re knocking on the door of those responsible,” he said.

The Croydon DRU’s operation is part of a larger effort to target commercial drug trafficking and associated criminal networks that pose ongoing threats to public safety. These organised grow houses not only fund illicit enterprises but also put local communities at risk through the potential for violence, fire hazards, and other criminal activity.

Police are urging the public to come forward with any information that may assist in cracking down on illegal drug operations. Anyone with relevant details is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.

As the investigation continues, authorities remain focused on identifying the individuals behind these large-scale operations and ensuring that those involved are held accountable under the law.
