Tainted Product: DigiPath Looks to Add Quality Assurance to Cannabis

Jul 06, 2015 (ACCESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- SEATTLE, WA / ACCESSWIRE / July 6, 2015 / Cannabis may seem like a tightly controlled market on the surface, but lax state laws, inconsistent lab practices, and inaccurate test results have introduced dangers to users. In a joint investigation, Oregon Live and the Oregonian tested ten popular marijuana concentrates in Oregon and found that nearly all of them contained pesticides. A total of 14 chemicals were found in eight of the samples, including six that the federal government considers carcinogenic.

Can South Africa Can-can for Cannabis

Before I can address the negatives or benefits of cannabis, we all first have to take a look at the current state our country and Government is in.

There are so many problems which our country is facing, which government is not quite fulfilling and majority of our people is not acting as the best sidekicks to take on these issues and making it a 50/50 partnership. From issues of poverty mainly, to corruption within our parliament house, to drugs, crime and so much which we are all familiar with, either from first hand experience or having to bare witness to a friend or stranger.

So personally these problems should firstly be improved or dealt with accordingly before we can get to legalising cannabis and enjoy it in a mature and secure environment.

It’s a year since Washington legalised marijuana and the sky hasn’t fallen down

It turns out legalising marijuana in Washington wasn’t such a bad idea.

Who would have thought (a few people actually did) that making weed widely available in the state would not be catastrophic.

If you’re judging the decision based on money generated, it was certainly a good one.

Washington’s racked up more than $250 million (£160m) in marijuana sales in the past year from around 160 weed stores — roughly $62m (£39m) of which constitute marijuana excise taxes.

That’s beyond the state’s original forecast of $36m (£23m).

And when state and local sales and other taxes are included, the total payday for the state and local governments tops $70m (£45m).

So you want to sell marijuana (legally)

Getting permission to sell this stuff is not easy.

You may have a passion for the product, but getting the go-ahead to start growing and selling marijuana in Massachusetts can be a long, expensive and difficult path.

Just ask Jeffrey Roos, CEO of Mass-Medi Spa, a potential dispensary in Norwell and Nantucket. Roos and his team have spent three years and about $300,000 in their journey to open. They’re still waiting.

Promoting 'Growing Your Own' Has No Place In The Campaign For Medicinal Cannabis.

“I’s my rights innit?  I can grow me own medicine carn’I?  I’m too sick to work. I can save the NHS millions. Le’s have anuvver spliff.”

Face it, this is exactly how too many people in Britain see medicinal cannabis users. It’s not true. It’s not fair. It’s unjust. Almost everything about it is wrong. The one thing that’s right – is that it’s a stereotype some people keep on reinforcing.

Uruguay's marijuana experiment is evaporating

DENVER, Colo. — It’s been more than 18 months since the tiny South American country of Uruguay legalized the cultivation, taxation and sale of recreational marijuana.

The most striking element of Uruguay’s legislation is that the government has pledged to hire companies to cultivate its own marijuana, which will then be sold to the public in pharmacies.

Washington state has brought in $70 milion in tax revenue from legal marijuana sales

SEATTLE (AP) — Washington launched its second-in-the-nation legal marijuana market with just a handful of stores selling high-priced pot to long lines of customers. A year later, the state has about 160 shops open, tax revenues have soared past expectations and sales top $1.4 million per day.

And who knows — the industry might even start making some money.

Washington pot farmers, processors and retailers have complained all year that heavy state and federal tax burdens, along with competition from an unregulated medical marijuana market, have made it difficult for them to do business.

Marijuana giveaway draws huge crowds at historic Weed the People event in Portland

A big bush of cannabis greeted visitors near the door, where 1,400 people stood in a long, snaking line, waiting hours to get their hands on one thing: seven grams of free marijuana.

This was Weed the People, and organizers looked to make good on their promise to celebrate Oregon's newfound freedom to obtain and consume recreational marijuana.

As of July 1, every Oregonian can legally possess up to one ounce of marijuana in public (that goes up to eight ounces at home). Since no recreational market is set up, people can't legally purchase the drug, but they are allowed to obtain it from licensed growers for free.
