Industry group says restaurants should be allowed to sell beer to go

TORONTO -- The people who own restaurants, bars and pubs in Ontario have an idea to give consumers another option to buy beer -- so-called "off sales" from their establishments.

The industry group Restaurants Canada says six provinces, including Quebec and British Columbia, already allow restaurants and bars to sell beer for home consumption as part of their liquor licences.

Restaurants Canada vice-president James Rilett says staff in restaurants and bars are trained to sell alcoholic beverages, and calls the idea of "off sales" a natural evolution in Ontario's retail system.

Rilett says "off sales" would also mean wider distribution for craft and micro brewers who complain about their limited access to the LCBO and Beer Store.

Rabbi of Russia rebuked Israeli colleagues for statements of Kosher hemp

Vice-President of the Congress of Jewish Religious Organizations and Communities of Russia (KEROOR) Zinovy ‚Äč‚ÄčKohen called the use of marijuana in the Passover unacceptable. He was commenting on the words of Israeli rabbis on a kosher hemp, RIA Novosti reported.

Kohen suggested that the authors of the statements are themselves obkurilis. Oh my God! In general, you cannot smoke at Passover, can not even light a fire. And marijuana - even more so. For Ashkenazi Jews, like me - it is strictly prohibited, it is a sin. Smoking marijuana during a holiday - death to the Jews, "- said vice-president KEROOR.

Advocates: Legalization could hurt medical marijuana

Under the ResponsibleOhio measure, a regulatory Marijuana Control Commission would license nonprofit dispensaries to sell medical cannabis.

At 11, Lucy Scholten fights for her life. She experiences epileptic seizures every day, and she contends with cerebral palsy. She has tried more than a dozen medications to ease her symptoms, to no avail. The next step, said her mother Nicole Scholten, should be medical marijuana.

But the answer, Scholten said, is not full legalization as envisioned by a group of wealthy investors called ResponsibleOhio. Lucy and other children with catastrophic illness would not be protected under ResponsibleOhio's proposed constitutional amendment, Scholten said.

Chile opens debate on marijuana legalization

SANTIAGO, Chile -- Chile's congressional health committee approved a bill Monday that would legalize the cultivation of marijuana for private recreational or medicinal use, sending it to the floor for a full debate.

The bill would take marijuana off the list of hard drugs in the socially conservative country and make it a soft drug like alcohol.

It would allow people over the age of 18 to grow up to six cannabis plants for their own use, or for use by minors if they are patients using the substance as part of a prescribed treatment regimen.

But it would maintain the country's ban on using marijuana in public and limit the amount a person can possess to 10 grams.

Hemp's outlook has backers seeing green

NoCo Hemp Expo draws 1,000-plus to second annual event at The Ranch

Justin Petty of Los Angeles isn't too keen on laundry, so he likes to wear his T-shirts for a week.

Petty can wear the shirts multiple times made by the company he co-owns called Recreator Hemp Apparel, because of their material: hemp. Hemp is twice as durable as cotton and is hypo-allergenic and microbial, which prevents the buildup of odor, he said.

"We like to think of hemp as having the performance capacity of synthetics, but it's natural," Petty said.

Recreator Hemp Apparel, a KickStarter project that launched a year ago, imports the fabric from China because of legal issues and then cuts, dyes, sews and prints its line of T-shirts in Los Angeles.
