Who buys weed? The Central Mass. cannabis market caters to a variety of consumers

cannabis buds in a jar

Adult-use cannabis retailers in Massachusetts amassed more than $2 billion in lifetime sales by the end of August this year, signaling an eager, and likely growing, consumer base.

And despite persistent, bad-faith tropes, and often racist stereotypes that have long dominated mainstream cannabis culture, there is no uniform customer.

Alex Mazin, president and CEO of Bud's Goods & Provisions, which operates dispensaries in Worcester and Abington, said asking who buys cannabis is kind of like asking who buys alcohol in a liquor store.

The Marijuana Mansion: The ‘highest’ haunted house around

spooky looking house

DENVER — Several nights a week during the fall, walking tours hit the flagstone sidewalks of Denver’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, stopping in front of old mansions to be told the tales of ghosts and hauntings. But one of those stops, one of those mansions, has an added ‘history’ that is being celebrated along with its spirited past.

“The house was built back in the 1800s for the Creswell family,” April Reed explained, showing off the scenic lobby of the Creswell Mansion on Grant Street.

Fake spider webs cover the banister, and a variety of Halloween decor fills each room of the mansion.

How To Read While High

reading a book

Reading while high is a habit that needs to be cultivated in order to be wholly understood. Here are some tips that can help you get started.

Weed is one of the most malleable substances out there. It can be used for a variety of activities, from watching movies, to going to parties, to working out better. Reading is probably one of the toughest activities you can do while high, asking some engagement from your brain that, if some factors are off, might be too difficult to achieve.

Similar to doing any other activity while high, what you really need to do in order to succeed is to practice. Marijuana can add a lot of layers to reading, making the experience more enjoyable or even helping you reconnect with it if you’ve been having a hard time reading full books.

Researchers may be one step closer to developing the equivalent of a Breathalyzer for detecting Cannabis use.

In an early study, scientists found that their rapid test was able to reliably detect THC in people's saliva in under 5 minutes. THC, short for tetrahydrocannabinol, is the active ingredient in cannabis.

Luxembourg first in Europe to legalise growing and using cannabis

luxembourg

Relaxation is part of government rethink designed to keep users away from illegal market.

Adults in Luxembourg will be permitted to grow up to four cannabis plants in their homes or gardens under laws that will make it the first country in Europe to legalise production and consumption of the drug.

The announcement on Friday by Luxembourg’s government was said to deliver fundamental changes in the country’s approach to recreational cannabis use and cultivation in light of the failure of prohibition to deter use.

Under the legislation, people aged 18 and over will be able to legally grow up to four cannabis plants per household for personal use.

Three in four California cannabis companies aren’t licensed; $100 million might help

cannabis dispensary

Nearly four years after California started regulating its cannabis industry, three in four businesses still operate on provisional licenses.

As temporary license holders, 75% of the state’s cannabis industry lacks protections and privileges that come with holding full licenses — a situation that worries some in the business. Those temporary operators also haven’t passed extensive environmental reviews required of full licensing — a fact that concerns environmental groups.

Cannabis licensing is slow for a number of reasons, ranging from the sometimes dizzying complexity of California’s environmental rules to conflicting language between state and local cannabis laws to the high costs for permits and a shortage of government workers needed to process the paperwork.

Marijuana dispensary suing South Lake Tahoe after business license revoked

cannabis buds

A marijuana dispensary is suing the city of South Lake Tahoe, California, after the city council revoked its cannabis and businesses licenses for failing to open on time — a delay the business blames on the COVID-19 pandemic.

Perfect Union SLT was awarded one of two microbusiness cannabis licenses in November 2019 as part of an agreement that gave it a year to open the business.

The cannabis business says in the lawsuit that the pandemic created the situation that prevented it from meeting the deadline, the Tahoe Daily Tribune reported.

The Green Organic Dutchman Makes Australian Debut

Canadian cannabis firm The Green Organic Dutchman (TGOD) is celebrating its first medical cannabis shipment to Australia.

In September last year, TGOD inked a distribution agreement with LeafCann for Australian and New Zealand medical cannabis markets, where LeafCann will be the exclusive supplier of the company’s products in both countries.

While the first products were expected to be available to Australian patients by the end of the first quarter of this year, that didn’t eventuate for whatever reasons – and it’s not hard to think of a few.

In addition to challenges posed by the pandemic, anything related to cannabis tends to get bogged down by red tape.

Still, TGOD seems very happy with the way things have turned out.
