An increase in the number of cannabis farms detected by the police in the UK has been attributed to a controversial new daytime TV show on BBC1, ‘Hash in the Attic’. Hosted by Gloria Hunniford and Aled Jones and aimed at students and the unemployed, the programme hopes to raise money for the households they visit by using their lofts to cultivate vast crops of illegal drugs and then sell them at auctions on the street corner.

Chan, known for films like “Rumble in the Bronx” and the “Drunken Master” series, who also serves as an official Narcotics Control Ambassador for the Chinese government, spoke out in defense of China’s tough anti-drug laws at a recent anti-drug press conference in Singapore, stating that he supports the death sentence for some offenders.

Police prepare for Oregon marijuana law to take effect

ONTARIO, Ore. - Oregon's marijuana law is set to take effect on July 1, allowing for recreational sales and use of the drug for people 21 and older.

Now, as people in Oregon will be able to legally possess up to 1 ounce of pot, law enforcement officers in Oregon and Idaho are preparing for the change - and the influx of people they say will be crossing state lines to get high.

Ontario Police Chief Mark Alexander says legalizing recreational marijuana will have a big effect on the community he serves.

Canada’s bring your own marijuana vapor lounge scene is experiencing impressive growth. Originally a metropolitan city phenom, bring your pot lounges have opened in smaller Canadian communities with great success.

Until recently lounges were a Toronto thing because our politicians and police presumably had better things to do. When conservative city councilor Mark Grimes did request a report on bring your weed lounges, a City of Toronto staff investigation determined lounges were actually Medical Marihuana Inhalation Facilities that had few police problems.

Not exactly what Grimes was seeking.

Major Colorado pot shop chain lays off 45% of its employees

One of Colorado’s largest chains of marijuana stores on Wednesday laid off 65 employees — or about 45 percent of the company’s total workforce, according to owner Shawn Phillips.

The pot layoffs are believed to be the largest in Colorado’s 16-month recreational era.

Phillips owns nine cannabis stores in Colorado, all of which are part of the Strainwise-branded network, and he called the cuts “drastic” but “temporary” in a letter he wrote to employees obtained by The Cannabist.

Secondhand exposure to cannabis smoke under extreme conditions impairs cognitive performance

The British government will introduce a bill to tackle radicalisation and immigration problems in the country, a media report said on Wednesday.

British Prime Minister David Cameron will tell the National Security Council that the anti-radicalisation bill will be in the Queen's speech on May 27, BBC reported.

Besides powers to close down premises used by radical groups, the bill will also include new immigration rules.

"What we are proposing is a bill which will have certain measures within it, measures such as introducing banning orders for groups and disruption orders for individuals, for those who are out there actively trying to promote this hatred and intolerance," Home Secretary Theresa May was quoted as saying.

Gov. Gary Herbert says he's 'open to the idea of medical marijuana'

SALT LAKE CITY — Gov. Gary Herbert said Thursday he's open to legalizing marijuana in Utah for medical use.

"I'm open to the idea of medical marijuana and the discussion of how it can be used as a medicine based on science, and making sure we have good, collaborative efforts so we can answer the questions that are out there," the governor said.

Herbert said during the taping of his monthly news conference on KUED Ch. 7 that the state has "a history of looking at opportunities, for medical purposes, to bring substances on board that maybe historically have not been traditional medicine."

He cited cannabis oil, approved by lawmakers a year ago, as "helping people who have had seizures, and seems to be demonstrating scientifically there is some benefit."

On Tuesday, April 21, Whole Hemp Company, announced that it is going to expand its operation to La Junta, Colorado, where it will be converting an empty building into a grow Center and processing/ production facility.
