Marijuana policy has emerged as a key issue in American politics, particularly over the past few years. The issue is being debated at local, state, and federal levels, and has captured the attention of media organizations and research institutions nationwide and around the world.

Navigating the policy terrain and understanding what is happening in this fast-paced, dynamic, and changing arena is often tough. Knowing who is influential can be even more difficult. Should dagga be legal?

Today isn’t just any Monday – it’s April 20th. Despite the large number of South Africans who celebrate 420, marijuana is illegal in South Africa. Here are some views on the legalisation of cannabis in South Africa.

According to Jeremy Acton, the leader of The Dagga Party of South Africa, cannabis can be used as an energy resource and as an alternative to fossil fuels. “South Africa is on the edge of an irreversible energy and resource crisis that could easily be alleviated by legalising cannabis to allow megascale production of carbon as an alternative to fossil carbon,” Acton said to Connect.

Glasgow cannabis rally offers smoke, politics and croissants

Noone seemed quite sure of the reason why this annual gathering in support of reform of the drug laws is called 420 day, but most of those present seemed pretty relaxed about it.

This included the police, who detained two people early in the afternoon but thereafter kept their presence low key, with a male and a female officer strolling past the stalls and temporary stage periodically in the sunshine.

Twenty years ago the attitude of the police would have been far less relaxed towards yesterday's (mon) gathering, which was part of World Cannabis Week.

Where the 2016 presidential candidates stand on marijuana

It’s April 20th or 4/20, a day when marijuana enthusiasts gather, legally or otherwise, to celebrate the joys of smoking pot — a sort of stoner Fourth of July.

Last year, President Barack Obama gave weed activists a boost when he said he considers marijuana no more dangerous than alcohol.

Artist arrested for smoking 420 joint outside Sydney Town Hall

A Sydney medical marijuana activist has been arrested after blazing up on the steps of Town Hall.

Jesse Willesee, the son of veteran TV journalist Terry Willesee and nephew of Mike Willesee, announced his plans to take part in the pro-pot protest known as 420 Day by posting a photo of himself smoking a joint outside the Opera House on Instagram to more than 6600 followers.

"I'm willing to stand up for what I believe in and if that means the police turn up, that is something I will have to regretfully but peacefully accept," the 27-year-old self-styled conceptual artist told ninemsn, adding that Australia is stuck in the dark ages on the issue.

Kansas Police Shutdown Cannabis Oil Activist's Facebook to Prevent Her From Raising Money for her Legal Defense

The Garden City Police Department had cannabis oil activist Shona Banda’s Facebook account shutdown because she was using her social media network to raise money for her legal defense after the police raided her home and took her 11 year-old son into custody, all because he vocally disagreed with anti-cannabis propaganda that his school counselors were teaching in his classroom.

The GoFundMe account Shona is using to raise money was actually set up at her request, by Wichita activist Jennifer Winn and Kansas Exposed editor Mike Shatz.
