Better Cannabis Stock: Sundial Growers vs. Aurora Cannabis

checking stock prices on mobile device

In my view, investors should probably avoid buying shares of Sundial Growers (NASDAQ:SNDL) and Aurora Cannabis (NASDAQ:ACB). Neither of the Canadian marijuana companies is profitable, and both reported plummeting quarterly revenue in their most recent earnings update.

But that doesn't mean the two stocks are equal, and I see one of the two as the clear winner of the matchup. I even see one of them eventually becoming an excellent investment once a few key things improve. Let's investigate why.

Who will control legal marijuana sales in NJ? Local players or big companies?

growing cannabis in a greenhouse

Manuel Caban is a lifelong Camden, New Jersey, resident who was arrested twice for marijuana offenses and a decade ago spent 30 days and then a year in prison for dealing.

That, he figures, makes him an ideal candidate for a license to sell cannabis now that New Jersey has legalized it with a focus on giving individuals who suffered under cannabis prohibition a solid path into the industry.

“I’m not a bad kid. I just got caught up selling weed,” said Caban, 38, who now runs a small catering business and intends to apply for a license to open a cannabis store in the city with two Camden friends, who also grew up poor in rough neighborhoods.

Cannabis investing was the best new thing five years ago. While the sector has gained a lot of ground, investors are still awaiting the next big step that turns the most famous leaf into green gold.

Both medicinal and recreational use has become more accepted by society, with several US states having legalised its use, as well as Canada, Mexico, South Africa, Uruguay and Georgia.
