Las Vegas bank backs off medical marijuana accounts

A Las Vegas bank that planned to offer accounts to medical marijuana businesses has backed off, citing the astronomical cost of complying with federal regulations.

First Security Bank of Nevada’s decision leaves some in the legal cannabis industry scrambling for a place to put their money just as they get ready to open for business. Most banks, including the nation’s largest, won’t open accounts for marijuana enterprises because the drug remains illegal under federal law.

“It’s very unfortunate,” said Jason Awad, First Security’s chairman and CEO.

Marijuana K-Cups: Convenient coffee that picks you up and chills you out

Few things go together better than marijuana and coffee.

With the recent legalization of recreational marijuana in multiple areas of the United States, as well as the rise of medical marijuana, the "let's put weed in everything trend" has officially reached bacon-level status.

Walking into a pot shop in Washington state, where recreational marijuana is legal, you may see cookies, brownies, sodas, oils and other marijuana-infused or edible products. But just incase you wanted a little buzz with that high, you can also purchase cannabis-infused coffee, which are also available in pods, or K-Cups.

Ohio legislature has limited options for stopping marijuana legalization issues, House speaker ...

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohioans could face more than one issue on their ballot in November that would legalize marijuana. And while that has stirred some concerns, don't look for the legislature to step in ahead of time to countermand the efforts.

Some lawmakers dislike that the process for amending the Constitution is being used to potentially create what they see as a business monopoly on marijuana. Others dislike legalization at all.

But Statehouse insiders say no serious push is underway to try and enact something quickly ahead of November.

Indeed, House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger made it clear this week that he is opposed to any action that could involve legalizing marijuana.

Beefer madness: pot jerky maker eyes Aspen Business Center

Here’s some marijuana news to chew on: A Front Range meat-production plant has designs to ship some of its products to a location at the Aspen Business Center, where the meat will be infused with cannabis for distribution to recreational and medical marijuana dispensaries. Among its cannabis-inspired offerings: jerky, dried sausage, beef sticks, smoked salmon and chocolate-covered bacon.

One of the business’ principals, John Conlin, said Thursday that this latest marijuana incarnation is the first of its kind.

“If you follow the marijuana industry, pretty much with every product, someone has infused it with marijuana,” he said. “It’s across the board, but we should be the first in the world for this.”

Invest In Cannabis Brings Technology To The Weed Industry

Eddie Miller, the 30-year-old founder of a budding pot empire, doesn’t come off as your typical weed advocate. And yet, his company eCann Inc., is an extensive technology platform for the weed industry that could add more steam to the end of prohibition movement sweeping the country.

“Right now the opportunity is the best because the market is being regulated in many states,” Miller told iDigitalTimes. “Every six months there’s a new revelation and a new revolution that's happening. ‘We want to make Kentucky synonymous with hemp like Idaho with potatoes,’ ag chief says

The latest hemp update from the Kentucky Department of Agriculture came at a tobacco warehouse where a packed house included former and current tobacco growers. But the irony was lost on no one.

Among those reporting was Agriculture Commissioner James Comer, who told those gathered at the G.F. Vaughan Tobacco Warehouse #23 in Lexington, “We want to make Kentucky synonymous with hemp like Idaho with potatoes.”

Speaker after speaker sang the praises of the crop that is entering season two of research production, including Derek Vaughan, CEO of Vaughan Tobacco.

“You may not believe this, but you’re standing in the heart of hemp country today. No one else is doing what Kentucky is doing.”
— Andy Graves, Atalo Holdings
