Introduction to Hemp

Proponents argue that easily grown and robust Cannabis Hemp is one of the best if not the very best plants overall for fuel, building supplies, medicine, fiber, food, paper, and substitute for wood. Some go so far as to argue that it could be one of the best solutions for carbon sequestration.

From about 6,000 years ago, to around 100 years ago, a huge number of products were made from Cannabis Hemp; for example: clothes, rugs, drapes, curtains, diapers, canvas, string, rope, sails, building materials and the list goes on into the thousands.

Opinion: Proper regulation can address concerns about creating a 'Big Marijuana' industry

Restrictions on advertising can be used to prevent the expansion of the cannabis industry, and any potential subsequent increases in cannabis consumption.

With cannabis policy reform gaining traction, predictably dire predictions about regulated markets have followed.

You may have heard that cannabis regulation is the first step in an inevitable slide toward an unchecked, out-of-control “Big Marijuana” industry driven only by profit. Vox even referred to this concern as the “best argument against marijuana legalization.”

But claims that cannabis policy reform will lead to Big Marijuana underplay the level of government control that is made possible under regulation.

Medical Marijuana Dispensary Receives First Ever License In Illinois

Patients have waited a very long time for safe access in Illinois. It took a very, very long time to get a medical marijuana bill passed, and even then, the bill was extremely limited. Then there was the long fiasco of awarding business license winners, which transitioned into more waiting for the licenses to actually be issued so that cultivation could begin. Today was a very big day for safe access in Illinois because the first dispensary license was finally issued today. Per WQAD:

A facility in Marion, Illinois, is the state’s first officially-licensed medical marijuana dispensary.

From biology teacher to Colorado marijuana magnate

DENVER – When you speak with Tim Cullen, it’s immediately obvious that he knows a lot about the science of growing marijuana.

As the CEO of Colorado Harvest Company, he could probably talk nonstop about how he has perfected the grow operation at his massive Denver facility, which can hold about 8,000 medical and recreational plants.

And once you find out what he did for a living before starting to grow and sell pot commercially in 2009, his intense knowledge about the subject makes perfect sense.

New York: Questions linger around state's medical marijuana program

The New York State Department of Health continues to say medical marijuana will be available to patients by this coming January, but families and advocates aren't so sure.

Christine Emerson has been fighting for the medicine for her daughter Julia.

"It takes 3 months to grow and harvest the plants," Emerson said. "So that puts us really toward the end of the year, and we're not even talking about producing the medicine and having it tested."

After multiple failed attempts, the health department finally agreed to answer 2 On Your Side's questions about the program, although only by email.

WILL THE MEDICINE BE READY?

Miners Are Trying to Strike It Rich with Food and Weed Instead of Ore

This week, the international stock markets may be giving business people and investors palpitations, but the commodities markets worldwide have been down in the dumps for a long time. So-called “junior miners”—those who explore for metals like copper, gold, and iron ore—are largely out of work. Flourishing marijuana trade is leaving Denver short on warehouse space

Here's an amusing byproduct of the legalization of marijuana use in some American states: it's putting a strain on the nation's freight network. The Wall Street Journal reportsthat Denver, a central hub for transportation of goods across the country, is experiencing a shortage of warehouse space due to increased demand from marijuana producers.
