A Look Inside the British Government's Legal Highs Lab

It looks like a head shop is taking inventory in a college science lab. On one side of the work surface are a few bags of white powder labeled with the very complicated names of chemical compounds; on the other is a range of foil packets sporting dodgy graphic designs and names like Gogaine, Ching, Exodus, and Herbal Haze.

Machines buzz and whirr in the background as chemists sit at computer screens, monitoring the compounds that pass through them. It's eerily quiet, and beyond the small selection of buildings in front of the window, there is no sign of civilization for miles.

South Korea pushes to be new force in pharmaceuticals

In a brightly lit sealed room at Celltrion's headquarters near Seoul, a man in white overalls and a hairnet squats next to a huge steel tank, extracting a beaker of brown liquid resembling stale beer.

The substance is hazardous to people; emergency showers are nearby in case of accidental exposure. But it is the source of nutrition for the genetically engineered cells used to make biological medicines, as Celltrion spearheads a push by South Korea to become a force in the pharmaceuticals industry.

The search is on for a marijuana breathalyzer

As more states legalize recreational marijuana, they’re also looking to police people who drive while stoned. Research to create a breathalyzer for marijuana is advancing—but evidence shows that driving under the influence of pot doesn’t actually cause accidents.

Colorado breathalyzer company Lifeloc Technologies, which received a $250,000 state grant last year to develop the equivalent of a marijuana breathalyzer, is moving forward with the new technology, the Durango Herald reports.

EPA Issues Guidance On Marijuana Pesticides Amid Industry Uncertainty

When he was managing a 3,500-plant medical marijuana grow facility in Denver, Adam Koh would have his staff thoroughly inspect his crops several times a week for signs of infestation. Tiny bite marks on the cannabis leaves could mean two-spotted spider mites were piercing the plant’s skin and sucking up nutrients. Small piles of what looked like powdered sugar could be the beginning of a mildew incursion.

‘Alternative’ Investments: Marijuana and Climate Change

From marijuana finance to global-warming trends, a look at some new ways to invest.
