LANSING – Mayor Virg Bernero's planned speech Saturday at Hash Bash in Ann Arbor is expected to get plenty of attention, but it's unclear if words will lead to any action that makes Lansing's policy on the drug easier to understand and enforce.

The city already allows limited use of marijuana beyond medicinal purposes. Bernero is expected to help drive the effort for a possible 2016 ballot initiative that would make recreational use of the drug legal in Michigan.

Sixteen benefits from the ‘War on Drugs’

It is widely assumed that the so called ‘war on drugs’ (the war between drugs), has been a disastrous failure, and faced with mounting evidence and criticism, governments would eventually seek legislative and policy change. The evidence presented is largely based upon an analysis of the inability of drug prohibition to reduce the supply and demand for banned substances, supplemented by a critique outlining the widespread harms caused by prohibition.

Cyprus set for new roadside drug testing

MPs appear to have found common ground to pave the way for an upgraded law in which motorists could be subject to roadside drug testing.

The police are determined to combat the menace of drug-driving, which is thought to also play a hand in Cyprus’ dismal road safety record. Moves to bring in ‘drugalysers’ for roadside tests on drivers had been hampered by poor technology and failure to agree on how the testing would be conducted

But a solution has been found during the latest session at the House Legal Affairs Committee.

Blood tests are set to be ruled out with saliva samples to be taken instead according to the new bill which is now set to go before parliament.

Driving While High On Weed: New App Could Allow Marijuana Users To Monitor Sobriety From ...

Researchers have created a smartphone app that could help determine whether someone is too high to get behind the wheel and would allow police to identify impaired drivers, an important development for law enforcement and marijuana consumers alike as more states move toward full marijuana legalization. The app, developed by researchers from Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona, uses high-speed cameras to detect involuntary, jerk-like eye movements associated with marijuana use, according to the State Press. The technology was unveiled earlier this month.

Tarpon Springs ‘hemp house’ owner an ambassador for the crop

TARPON SPRINGS — Bob Clayton’s first encounter with hemp was at a health food store where the fibrous plant was sold in bottles as an ideal source of protein and omega acids.

At the time, he had no idea of the many uses for the tall cannabis plant, which Florida farmers are banned from growing due to its association with its psychoactive relative, marijuana.

The two happen to come from the same plant, but industrial hemp’s chemical makeup doesn’t produce a high.

What its fibrous stalks can produce is durable clothing, paper and even car dashboards.

Clayton, a retired engineer, also saw its potential as an Earth-friendly fiber for construction.

How The Pharmaceutical Industry Is Partly Responsible For Creating “Superbugs”

While antibiotic drugs like penicillin have saved countless lives and eliminated most public health threats like syphilis, there is a darker side to these miracle cures – the worsening global trend of antimicrobial and antibiotic resistance, which in turn has led to the creation of drug-resistant bacterial strains known as “superbugs”.

And while doctors and scientists race to find new forms of antibiotic medication to treat these developing illnesses, there’s another aspect to antimicrobial and antibiotic resistance that needs to be addressed – the issue of pharmaceutical companies and environmental pollution.
