There is a crazy theory going around Prague that says Google will acquire Twitter

About 1,000 social media executives from around the world attended the Engage 2015 conference in Prague last week, hosted by Socialbakers, the big Czech startup that handles a huge chunk of Facebook's international marketing clients.

Outside the main conference sessions much of the chatter among attendees was about whether Facebook or Google was more powerful in terms of reaching the audiences they need. Both have audiences in the billions, but Facebook seems to be innovating faster than Google right now.

There was less talk about Twitter.

Weed art: Denver exhibits honor, and question, the marijuana revolution

Artists aren’t so quick to respond to social change. It’s not that they don’t care, of course, it’s just that art doesn’t work that way.

Conceiving and executing art — figuring out what to say and how to say it — take time. Add to that technical things, like printing, framing and paint-drying, and then logistics, like finding a spot on the schedule of a busy gallery.

A Brighter Future for Marijuana Growing

On the floor of the 2015 Marijuana Business Conference and Expo in Chicago this week there is one word on everyone’s lips: greenhouse. From investors to cultivators, the consensus is that a bright future for cannabis cultivation is looming, and the future is Sungrown.

There are countless advantages to greenhouse growing, but the core of the argument always returns to an inescapable token of common sense: sunlight is the ideal means to grow plants. No matter what combination of solar-panel-charged LEDs or subterranean geothermal cooling humans come up with, no methodology to date can hold a candle to the convenient fusion reactor in the sky shining light on us daily.

Google Backs Farm-Focused Startup as 'AgTech' Blooms

Google on Tuesday pumped $15 million into a farming-focused technology startup, the latest in a surge of investment applying Internet innovations to growing food.

The funding round led by Google's investment arm brings to nearly $28 million the total amount of money pumped into Farmers Business Network (FBN) by backers including powerhouse Silicon Valley venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.

"Farmers are quintessential entrepreneurs; they are on their own and are mechanics, hackers, managers, animal specialists and more," FBN co-founder Charles Baron told AFP.

"Agriculture has always seen lots of innovation. What you are seeing more of now is venture-backed companies pushing into agriculture."

Smoke and mirrors: Medical marijuana crackdowns in Livermore draw critics

LIVERMORE -- When police swooped in and effectively shut down the city's lone medical marijuana collective in a raid in March, cannabis advocates weren't surprised.

They said the action was emblematic of Livermore's heavy-handed crackdown on medical marijuana patients, exerting a level of force unlike any they've seen in other major Bay Area cities. Police, on the other hand, insist the people they are arresting are manipulating the law and committing criminal acts.

Nineteen years after California legalized medical cannabis, advocates claim that numerous card-carrying Livermore residents have had their families broken up and assets seized, and lost their homes, for doing what they thought was allowed under state law.

(Harrisburg) -- While state lawmakers consider legalizing marijuana for medical use, some are urging the commonwealth at least allow one type of the crop for commercial use.

Let's first be clear: industrial hemp is like marijuana, but can't really be smoked.

Instead the plant is used in clothes, cars, and paper, among many other goods.

Bills in both the state Senate and House would legalize commercial harvesting of the crop and legislators used a recent hearing to build a case for it.

Jonathan Miller with Kentucky's Hemp Industry Council was once was a lawmaker who thought it would be easy to vote against something associated with marijuana.

But, he says he did his research, and it paid off.
