Aurora Cannabis is home to one of the world’s largest genetic libraries for cannabis in Comox. At 32,200 sq ft, with 10,000 sq ft dedicated to research and 21,700 sq ft of greenhouse space and has one of the largest genetic libraries for cannabis globally. Today (Sept. 17), Aurora Cannabis announced that the company’s focus on unraveling the molecular mechanisms controlling flowering and maturity time in cannabis can lead to enhancing crop yield and adaptability.  By using the natural variation in the circadian rhythm of cannabis, Aurora Cannabis hopes to raise the economic value of cannabis. Through their research and development, Aurora Cannabis is overcoming traditional limitations and moving towards improved cultivation techniques.  Aurora has advanced research in autoflowering technology. Autoflowering is when a genetic characteristic automatically transitions the plant from the vegetative stage to the flowering stage, without reliance on light cycles..  This technique will support future breading strategies and can be leveraged to change outdoor cannabis cultivation in high latitude regions such as Canada.   "As a company backed by science, we have long invested in research both independently and with leading academic institutions, and have achieved significant learning from our work," says Jose Celedon, PhD, Director, Breeding and Genetics at Aurora. “Our recent work on auto-flowering will be a gamechanger for cannabis and hemp production. This research speaks to our expertise and investment in science that will move this industry forward."  Aurora Cannabis’ innovation with its work on outdoor cultivation, especially in high latitude areas, will lead to greater yields in outdoor settings. The U.S. patent that Aurora recently received enables their breeding program to identify and select for the autoflowering trait within various cannabis plants.  Aurora Cannabis has been researching and developing cannabis breeding since 2018 and this is just their latest breakthrough. Their breeding program has typically yielded 40-100 per cent more flower than legacy varieties.  [By Bomox Valley Record](https://www.comoxvalleyrecord.com/business/aurora-cannabis-advances-auto-flowering-research-7539804) **For more Cannabis News like this, circle back to **[**420intel.com**](https://420intel.com/)**!** [**420 Intel News**](https://420intel.com/content/about-us)** | **[**420 Advertising**](https://420intel.com/contact/advertising_opportunities)** | **[**Cannabis Business News**](https://420intel.com/articles/marijuana-business-news)** | **[**Medical Marijuana News**](https://420intel.com/articles/medical-cannabis-news)** | **[**Recreational Marijuana News**](https://420intel.com/articles/recreational-marijuana-news) [Cannabis Technology News](https://420intel.com/blog/tag/cannabis-technology-news) ![Buzz](https://420intel.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Buzz-No%20Outline-2.png?width=200&height=200&name=Buzz-No%20Outline-2.png) #### [Buzz](https://420intel.com/blog/author/buzz) At 420 Intel, we cover cannabis legalization news throughout the world, offer reliable information for cannabis business owners, detail technological advances that impact the marijuana industry, cover marijuana rallies from across the globe, and everything in between. - - - [Recreational Cannabis News](https://420intel.com/blog/tag/recreational-cannabis-news) [![Social Cannabis Rules Published This Friday!](https://420intel.com/hs-fs/hubfs/smoke-honest-PyfrU4d5GNs-unsplash.jpg?width=550&height=395&name=smoke-honest-PyfrU4d5GNs-unsplash.jpg)](https://420intel.com/blog/social-cannabis-rules-published-this-friday) - [![Buzz](https://420intel.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Buzz-No%20Outline-2.png?width=80&height=80&name=Buzz-No%20Outline-2.png) Buzz](https://420intel.com/blog/author/buzz) - 19 August 2025 #### [Social Cannabis Rules Published This Friday!](https://420intel.com/blog/social-cannabis-rules-published-this-friday) Massachusetts Considers Legalizing Social Cannabis Consumption [Medical Cannabis News](https://420intel.com/blog/tag/medical-cannabis-news) [![Aurora Cannabis Boosts German Production](https://420intel.com/hs-fs/hubfs/drew-taylor-7yty0M7XnYU-unsplash-1.jpg?width=550&height=395&name=drew-taylor-7yty0M7XnYU-unsplash-1.jpg)](https://420intel.com/blog/aurora-cannabis-boosts-german-production) - [![Buzz](https://420intel.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Buzz-No%20Outline-2.png?width=80&height=80&name=Buzz-No%20Outline-2.png) Buzz](https://420intel.com/blog/author/buzz) - 22 September 2025 #### [Aurora Cannabis Boosts German Production](https://420intel.com/blog/aurora-cannabis-boosts-german-production) Investors following **Aurora Cannabis** (TSE: ACB) just received a major update that could reshape the...
