Cannabis retail expands in Redwood City with two new dispensary openings

MMD and Airfield Supply Company Mark Their Entry into Redwood City.

Redwood City is set to see the opening of two new cannabis dispensaries this weekend.

MMD, an established California cannabis brand, and Airfield Supply Company, a significant player in the cannabis retail market, are expanding their presence into Redwood City with stores on Broadway Street and Whipple Avenue, respectively.

MMD is scheduled to open its doors on Friday, Dec. 15, at 1764 Broadway St. at 10 a.m. The opening day will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony and promotional activities, including special offers for the first customers.

In a promotional offer for its grand opening, MMD will provide the first 10 customers with a year's supply of free cannabis. Throughout the day, visitors can also enjoy complimentary ice cream provided by Gelato and the opportunity to experience the Malibu VIP Bus for product tastings.

Airfield Supply Company will open its Redwood City location at 928 Whipple Ave. at noon on Monday, Dec.18. The day's events also include a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Chamber San Mateo County and city officials, discounts throughout the store and various brand activations.

The grand opening at Airfield Supply Company in Redwood City will feature several events: a 20% store-wide discount all day, a ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon with the Chamber and elected officials, exhibitions by 15-20 leading cannabis brands, and doorbuster prizes for customers throughout the day.

The cannabis retailer openings come as Redwood City continues to refine its cannabis regulations.

The launch of these dispensaries is anticipated to have a positive economic impact on Redwood City, according to the city.

Cannabis businesses are expected to contribute significantly to the city’s revenue, with projections estimating an additional $500,000 to $700,000 annually through taxes on gross receipts. The revenue generated by these businesses could be crucial for Redwood City, especially as the city faces a significant budget deficit in the coming years.

Embarc was one of six cannabis dispensaries that received permits to operate storefronts in Redwood City, and the store’s launch is the culmination of a more than two-year approval process with the city. It opened in February 2023 with hundreds in attendance.

Following the opening of Embarc, Juva opened its doors in July off Courthouse Square on 2301 Broadway.
