Off-Duty Officer Receives Mistaken Text, Unravels Marijuana Stash in Richmond Home.

According to a Facebook post by the Richmond Police Department, an off-duty officer got a text message from someone she knew from a previous interaction.

A mistaken text message led police to a stash of marijuana in a Richmond home.

According to a Facebook post by the Richmond Police Department, an off-duty officer got a text message on Sunday, Dec. 10 from someone she knew from a previous interaction. The messages included videos of large amounts of marijuana, as well as prices to purchase the drug in different quantities.

"It was very obvious these text messages were not intended for Officer Thackrey, let alone a law enforcement officer," the department wrote in the post.

Officers used the information in the messages to obtain a search warrant for the person's home. The warrant was conducted on Monday, Dec. 11, and officers found more than 14 pounds of marijuana, 633 grams of THC wax, which is valued at over $7,000, several bags of gummies, a 9mm handgun and over $500 in cash.

The suspect was taken to the Wayne County Jail on a preliminary felony charge of dealing marijuana/hashish/salvia.

"Please let this be a reminder to ALWAYS double check who you are sending that text message to before hitting the send button," police wrote.
