U-Haul Truck Carrying Marijuana Crashes Into Sierra Madre Fire Department.
A U-Haul truck filled with boxes of marijuana crashed into the gates of the Sierra Madre Fire Department’s headquarters after the driver got shot in the arm — prompting his arrest and that of his passenger, authorities said.
The truck was carrying an estimated 1,000 to 2,000 pounds of marijuana, sheriff’s Lt. David Kearney said. The marijuana was in vacuum sealed packages.
The U-Haul truck was driving in the unincorporated community of north San Gabriel when someone in a dark-colored sport utility vehicle shot at the truck, he said.
The truck later struck a car in either north San Gabriel or east Pasadena, Kearney said.
The driver of the sideswiped car followed the box truck to the crash in Sierra Madre, which is at 242 W. Sierra Madre Blvd, sheriff’s Sgt. David Hernandez said.
The man driving the U-Haul truck and the man who was his passenger were arrested on suspicion of transporting narcotics, Hernandez said.
The collision left the station’s gates bent, Sierra Madre police Sgt. Charles Kamchamnan said.
It was unclear if the driver was going to the fire station for medical attention.
