Anti-Cannabis group sues New York in effort to nullify Cannabis Legislation
The State of New York is now being sued by a collection of anti-cannabis campaign groups in an effort to force a rollback on legalization.
On June 20th, a lawsuit was filed targeting the State of New York, its Governor Kathy Hochul, the Cannabis Control Board and the Office of Cannabis Management.
The case, which is calling for the State to nullify both medical cannabis and adult-use cannabis legislation, is being spearheaded by anti-cannabis groups including ‘Cannabis Victims Seeking Justice’, the ‘Cannabis Impact Prevention Coalition’, and a number of other individuals.
According to Green Market Report, the group is arguing that as cannabis is still federally a controlled substance, New York cannot legalize it.
Furthermore, they accuse the state of creating a cannabis trafficking scheme which violated federal law, and that medical cannabis laws are not based on any medical studies.
The court filing stated, “Marijuana products can be very concentrated in potency and reach 99% THC, the psychoactive, intoxicating, mind-altering component of the drug. These products cause addiction, mental illness, birth defects, suicide, violence, DUIs and many adverse general health problems.”
