Cannrose Cannabis brings family dynamic to Big Rapids

BIG RAPIDS - The latest business to join the marijuana industry in Big Rapids incorporates a family dynamic and homegrown product.

Cannrose Cannabis, 805 Maple St., held its soft opening Thursday, May 18, which saw an influx of marijuana enthusiasts.

The business is family owned and grows its own flower product. It kicked off its soft opening with 29 different strains for customers to choose from.

Owners Doug Gingrich, Alan Gingrich and Sean Alspaugh focused on keeping the business local in both growing products and catering to customers' preferences.

Doug Gingrich said centering family has helped keep things running smoothly.

“Myself and my brother are two of the partners, and our good friend is our other partner,” Gingrich said. “The manager of the store is my daughter, Reese. My direct assistant is my brother's son, Lester, and my nephew, Joe, runs our outdoor grow facility. My mother also actually does work at the outdoor grow facility, so it truly is a family business.”

Cannrose Cannabis has a variety of marijuana products including flower, cartridges, wax, distillate and their own line of edibles.

The flower is the highlight of the store, according to Doug Gingrich, as it is cultivated and packaged by locals. Strains will rotate regularly depending on popularity and availability.

Gingrich said keeping business local was important to every co-owner.

“We're bringing jobs to the community, and all the money staying here,” Gingrich said. “The grow facility is here, the employees are here. When you spend $1 here at this store you're spending it in Big Rapids. It's not going to Detroit or California or Oregon, everything stays here.”
