The superintendent promises discipline for students who brought items to campus

Four Carter Middle School students distributed cannabis edibles to several other students Monday causing school officials to call for emergency medical services, according to a letter from Warren Consolidated Schools Superintendent Robert Livernois posted on the school district’s website.

According to Livernois, several students ate cookies and gummies containing THC, the crystalline compound that is the main active ingredient in cannabis.

Livernois did not say if any students were taken to the hospital or how many students were treated by EMS.

In the letter to parents, Livernois said there would be “severe discipline consequences” facing the students involved.

“This is an important reminder for all of us to be aware of what our children may have access to at home, such as alcohol, tobacco, vape, or marijuana, all of which are illegal for them to use,” said Livernois in the letter.

He indicated that since marijuana became legal in Michigan, Warren Consolidated Schools has seen an increase in students vaping and eating edibles containing THC.

“Unfortunately, it should come as no surprise because many children see marijuana use as normal and do not understand the effects or consequences of using it,” Livernois said.

The Macomb Daily reached out to the district for more information but has not heard back.

Livernois urged parents to talk to their children and attached information about the dangers of vaping to the letter.
