Poll: Should cannabis be branded the same way as alcohol?

With legalization in Canada quickly approaching, there have been challenges that industry professionals must overcome. Health Canada released a paper on Tuesday, November, 21st, outlining regulatory recommendations for the legalization of cannabis in 2018.

Within this paper, specific guidelines regarding the branding, packaging and marketing of recreational cannabis were addressed. Guidelines such as secure, safe and tamper-proof packaging, plain and simple label designs in hopes of limiting the attraction to children, as well as restrictive marketing directions.

The marketing of recreational cannabis is still up in the air and government officials are unsure which path is most appropriate to take. If the cannabis industry is to follow the same guidelines that alcohol currently does, this would allow for potential public advertising, sponsorships and endorsements.
