Pennsylvania medical marijuana board recommends sale of leaf, plant form
Pennsylvania's medical marijuana advisory board on Monday morning voted in favor of allowing "dry leaf or plant form for administration by vaporization."
The vote is a recommendation. Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine, who chaired the advisory board meeting, is expected to decide whether or not to accept the recommendation and ultimately allow sale of dry leaf and and plant forms at the state's medical marijuana dispensaries.
It wasn't immediately clear when she'll make a decision.
The board, whose members include a state police representative, a county district attorney and several physicians, voted 11-0, with one member abstaining, in favor of the recommendation.
Patient advocates have stressed that leaf from of medical marijuana, because it involves less processing, is the least expensive form, and probably the fastest-acting. Growers have noted it takes the shortest time to grow and make available to patients.
The board as of early Monday was still considering a long list of other adjustments to Pennsylvania's medical marijuana program.
